Yopyk takes job with NHL’s Wild

Former Merrimack associate head coach Darren Yopyk has joined the Minnesota Wild in the scouting department, according to a report.

Yopyk, who came to Merrimack with head coach Mark Dennehy in 2005, has spent the last two seasons as the head coach and GM of the Westside Warriors of the BCHL, where he compiled a career record of 71-38-3-8.

Yopyk interviewed for the vacant Northeastern coaching job last week.

While at Merrimack, Yopyk was responsible for bringing in most of the Warriors’ talent from Western Canada, a connection that resulted in players like Chris Barton, Karl Stollery, Jesse Todd, Adam Ross and many others.
