BASEBALL: Newton North’s Thomas Joyce Commits to Merrimack

on

Newton North catcher Thomas Joyce announced on Twitter that he has committed to Merrimack College to play baseball.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Joyce also plays first base, according to various profiles.

PrepBaseballReport.com said of Joyce earlier this year:

“Big and strong kid, 6-foot and very solid. Normally plays 1B but is their best catcher. Blocked the ball very well and displayed quick feet. His release was very long however and even though his arm was above average his pop times were 2.2/2.3. Best asset is with the bat, showed great patience and discipline at the plate, fouling off numerous tough pitches. Very low stance which allows him to really use his lower body well. Very good all-around hitter with good power potential. Someone to keep an eye on next year, possible low level Division I type player.”

Joyce’s brother, Alex, is a freshman on the baseball team this season at Sacred Heart.
