Local product Nick Shumski, a short stop at Salem High School (N.H.), has committed to play baseball at Merrimack College; he announced the commitment on his Twitter page Wednesday evening.

Shumski batted .318 as a sophomore, and this past spring was named to the All-New Hampshire Second Team by the New Hampshire High School Baseball Coaches Association after batting .368 (28 for 76) with 21 runs scored and 12 runs batted in as primarily the third or fourth batter in the Salem lineup, while also serving as a junior captain; he was also named Eagle-Tribune Honorable Mention.

Shumski, who also plays football, will be a senior at Salem this coming spring.
