“I am looking forward to our 2016 spring schedule. We have 49 games scheduled right now, against 49 regional teams. We will certainly be challenged by all of our opponents, and I feel the games leading up to our NE-10 Conference schedule will prepare us well heading into the end of March,” stated Barese. “This region is full of quality teams and I am eager to see how we play against some great programs.”
Eighteen of the Warriors’ 49 contests will be out-of-conference matchups, including the first 13 games of the season. Merrimack will take on five of the seven programs from the Southwest Division in addition to their 21 divisional games in league play.
Beginning on Friday, Feb. 26, the Navy and Gold will play five games in Myrtle Beach, headlined by a season-opening doubleheader against Felician. The Warriors will also take on Mercy, Dominican (N.Y.) and Queens (N.Y.) during their weekend south of the Mason-Dixon Line.
Merrimack begins the month of March with its first true road contests of the year, a three-game series with Molloy College (March 5-6). The following weekend sees the Warriors return to Trinity Stadium in Haverhill, Mass., where the Navy and Gold played seven games last year, to play twin billings against two of their Myrtle Beach opponents in Mercy (March 12) and Dominican (March 13).
The Warriors home and NE-10 opener is set for Wednesday, March 16, against American International from the Warrior Baseball Diamond. The game against the Yellow Jackets begins a stretch of eight of 11 games on campus for Merrimack that extends through the end of March. The Navy and Gold play their first divisional series of the year during that time vs. Saint Anselm (March 26-28).
April arrives with a six-game road swing for Merrimack, including cross-divisional trips to Saint Rose (April 2) and Le Moyne (April 3). The weekend of April 9-10 sees the Warriors host Southern Connecticut and New Haven for separate doubleheaders.
The Navy and Gold play 11 of their final 15 games of the season away from the Warrior Baseball Diamond. The final home divisional series begins on Saturday, April 23, against Southern New Hampshire. Merrimack’s home finale is set for Tuesday, May 3, vs. Bentley. The Warriors close out the year with a three-game set at Stonehill (May 5-7).
