Merrimack’s DiSarcina, Spielvogel Deemed NCBWA All-Region

Seniors Cam DiSarcina (Shirley, Mass.) and Nate Spielvogel (Brookline, Mass.) of the Merrimack College baseball team were named honorable-mention selections to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) East All-Region teams as announced on Tuesday afternoon.

A Northeast-10 All-Conference First Team selection, DiSarcina enjoyed a career season playing at first base for the Warriors. The team captain notched career highs in doubles (21), runs scored (33), home runs (3), RBI (37), slugging percentage (.539) and OPS (.941), hitting in the No. 3 spot in all but one of Merrimack’s games this season. He led the NE10 in doubles, tying Merrimack’s single-season record in the process, while also pacing the conference in the regular season with a career-best 26 extra-base hits.

DiSarcina etched his name in the Warriors’ record book in multiple other areas throughout the season. He finished his four-year career with 60 doubles, breaking the program record and totaling 15 more doubles than the next closest Warrior. He totaled 655 at-bats, the most ever in Warriors history, while ranking in the top-three of a few categories including total bases (300), hits (212) and RBI (130).

Spielvogel’s season will go down as one of the best ever for a Merrimack reliever, and was the best of his four-year career. He earned NE10 All-Conference Second Team honors, the first all-league nod of his career. Over 15 appearances and 24.1 innings pitched, the righthander struck out a career-high 43 batters for a K/9 rate of 15.90, which was a team high and personal best. He only allowed two earned runs for a 0.74 ERA, shattering his previous career best by nearly three total runs.

He finished tied for second in the NE10 in the regular season with five saves, while picking up a pair of victories. Merrimack’s all-time leader with 16 career saves, Spielvogel posted single-game highs this season in innings pitched (5.1) and strikeouts (9). He totaled multi-strikeout efforts in all but three of his appearances, registering at least three punch outs in seven of them including his final six outings.
