Last Time Out:

  • Merrimack suffered two losses last Saturday against fourth-ranked Southern New Hampshire to conclude the regular season
  • In the first game, the Warriors rallied from a 4-0 deficit to tie the game at four-all, thanks in part to a two-run homer off the bat of junior Matt Nicholson (Rockland, Mass.). Senior Nate Spielvogel (Brookline, Mass.) pitched 4.1 innings of relief, keeping the game tied until midway through the eighth inning when the Penmen took the lead for good
  • Spielvogel’s numbers rank among the best in the NE10 for bullpen arms, posting a 0.79 ERA through 22.2 innings of work. He has allowed just two earned runs during that span, striking out 39 batters for a 15.49 strikeout-per-nine inning rate

Earlier This Season vs. Franklin Pierce:

  • The Ravens took two of three games from the Warriors over Easter Weekend, winning the first and third games of the weekend
  • In a thrilling second game, the Warriors rallied from an 8-0 deficit to prevail, 11-8, following a six-run eighth inning. Sophomore Matthew Ronai (Orange, Conn.) hit a single to right that scored redshirt-junior Tyler Lyne (Agawam, Mass.) and freshman Nick Shumski (Salem, N.H.) that proved to be the game-winning hit
  • Junior Joe Westerman (Maynard, Mass.) worked 5.1 frames of one-run relief to pick up the win, while Spielvogel worked a clean ninth frame to record the save

NE10 Championship:

  • For the third straight year under third-year head coach Nick Barese, the Warriors advanced to postseason play thanks to a 15-6 divisional record, the most wins in divisional play for the Warriors since the NE10 moved to the Northeast-Southwest format
  • The Navy and Gold will look to advance to NE10 Championship Weekend for the first time since 2013, when the program reached the NE10 Final
  • That year, Merrimack began postseason play with a 4-1 win in Rindge. The Warriors also took on Franklin Pierce in the 2015 NE10 First Round, which the Ravens won by an 11-4 final

The Ravens:

  • Franklin Pierce finished with a  one-game lead over the Warriors for second in the division, with its series victory over Merrimack proving decisive in the division standings
  • The Ravens enter the weekend winners of seven of their last eight, with a defeat to division-winning SNHU as their only blemish
  • Franklin Pierce begins postseason play on the heels of its regional championship last season and trip to the College World Series
