BOSTON, Mass. – Senior captain Kristen Schmidt (Athens, N.Y) finished in 13th place individually with a time of 19:46 to lead the Merrimack College women’s cross country team to a third-place finish at the Cod Fish Bowl Invitational in Boston, Massachusetts on Saturday.
Finish: Merrimack College (3rd/12)
Location: Franklin Park | Boston, Mass.
What They Said
Head coach Chris Cameron, “The women ran better this year than they did last year at this same meet, so that is a positive sign. We’re still waiting to get our full team back but once we do it is really going to help us in the team standings. We have a week off, so for us that is going to be a crucial week of training.”
How It Happened
Finishing just after Schmidt with a time of 20:04 was sophomore Maddie Mercado (Palenville, N.Y.), nabbing 19th place for her second top-25 finish this season. Just eight seconds after Mercado crossed the finish line, freshman Sophie Gorton (Plymouth, Mass.) would do the same, finishing in 23rd place.
Merrimack would round out the top-30 on Saturday, as three Warriors, Junior Claire Aalerud (Winchester, Mass.) (20:20), sophomore Katie Irwin (Hopkinton, N.H.) (20:21) and sophomore Randa Griffin (West Hartford, Conn.) (20:27), would finish in spots 28-30, respectively.
