FH: Merrimack Ranked 10th Nationally in Preseason Poll

The National Field Hockey Coaches Association released its 2015 Penn Monto Division II Preseason Poll on Tuesday, ranking the Merrimack College field hockey program 10th in the nation.

The Warriors have experienced quite a bit of success during the tenure of head coach Anne Rounce, and the teams’ positioning in this poll is a reflection of that success. The Navy and Gold completed their fourth consecutive winning season last fall, and will bring back all but two starters this year to go for conference and national success.

Three other Northeast-10 Conference teams join Merrimack in the nation’s top-10. Defending conference champion Stonehill comes in ranked fifth nationally and received one first-place vote, while NE-10 2014 runner-up LIU Post ranks ahead of the defending champions at three, receiving two first-place votes. Adelphi was also voted into the top-10 ranking in at seven, while also receiving a first-place vote.

Merrimack will open up the year on Wednesday, Sept. 9, when they head down to Bentley to face off with the Falcons at 7 p.m. Bentley topped Merrimack in their only matchup last year, 2-1.
