Linked: Merrimack’s Juvaris Hayes makes most of chance

As Joe Gallo was going through the interview process at Merrimack in 2016, the prospective coach did his homework. He knew the Warriors would need a point guard, so he made a short list of targets.

When he was hired, the new coach went to work.

Gallo made a trip to St. Anthony High in New Jersey to make sure Jaleel Lord, who had committed to Merrimack, was still coming. But he was also there to visit his teammate, Juvaris Hayes, an overlooked point guard he was interested in.

“It didn’t take very long,” Gallo said. “I think I watched him go up and down maybe two or three times and I didn’t really need to see much more before I offered him a scholarship, and he accepted pretty shortly after.”
