Merrimack Men’s Basketball Ranked 15th Nationally Ahead of 2017 Season

The Merrimack College men’s basketball program was ranked No. 15 in the 2017-18 Division II Bulletin Preseason Preview issue, as unveiled by the publication on Sunday.

In the Bulletin’s 27th year of publication, the selection in the top-25 marks the first for the Warriors since 2009, when Merrimack earned the No. 7 spot in the annual poll. The Warriors were the only Northeast-10 Conference program named in the top-25, and one of only two programs from the East Region.

DII Bulletin also deemed the Warriors the top program in the NE10 entering 2017-18, ahead of Saint Anselm College and Le Moyne College. The Hawks’ Tim Guers was named the Preseason Player of the Year.

Merrimack returns every member of its starting five that played in the 2017 NCAA Tournament, featuring redshirt-senior Tawayne Anderson Jr. (Garden City, N.Y.), senior Kyle Howes (Maynard, Mass.), junior Ryan Boulter (Mansfield, Mass.), junior Troy McLaughlin (Old Tappan, N.J.) and sophomore Juvaris Hayes (Parterson, N.J.). The Warriors also bring back a majority of its bench production, headlined by sophomores Jaleel Lord (Jersey City, N.J.) and Devon Moore (Hanover, Pa.).

The Division II Bulletin released its first issue in 1991, and is in its 27th year of syndication. The Bulletin will release 14 issues in 2017-18, and is featured on www.smallcollegehoops.com.

The Warriors hold their first official practice for the 2017-18 season this Sunday, with an exhibition against UConn set to begin the year on Monday, Oct. 30, from the XL Center in Hartford, Conn. at 7 p.m.
