The Merrimack men’s basketball team will play an exhibition game at UConn on Oct. 30, according to UConn’s schedule, released on Tuesday.
UConn’s home schedule will be divided between Gampel Pavilion in Storrs and the XL Center in Hartford at a later date.
“This is another great moment for the growth of Merrimack basketball, to get to play against a program with the prominence and talent of UConn,” second-year head coach Joe Gallo stated. “We’re looking forward to the opportunity to showcase our program, our student-athletes and Merrimack College on a national stage this October against the Huskies.”
The Huskies are traditionally one of the power programs in Division I. The Huskies are four-time national champions, the six-most in all Division I, with their last title coming in 2014, and UConn has made the Final Four five times. UConn has appeared in the NCAA Tournament 33 times, with the last appearance coming in 2016.
Merrimack finished last season 19-12, advancing to the NCAA East Regional Semifinal. The Warriors return the bulk of last season’s roster, losing two players to graduation (Riley Calzonetti and Anthony Barry).
Last season, the Warriors traveled to the Farleigh Dickinson (NEC) for an exhibition game.
