The Merrimack College men’s basketball program picked up its third top-20 ranking of the preseason when the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) unveiled its Division II Coaches Poll, ranking the Warriors No. 18 nationwide.
The Navy and Gold have now been ranked in all three preseason polls, earning a No. 15 designation from the Division II Bulletin and a No. 20 selection in the Basketball Times poll.
The No. 18 ranking marks the first time that the program has been named in the NABC DII Coaches Poll since 2010-11, when Merrimack was selected No. 22 to start the year. The selection is the highest for the program in 27 years, when the Warriors were also No. 18 during the 1990-91 season.
Saint Thomas Aquinas – the reigning regional champions – landed at No. 5, and joined Merrimack as the only representatives in the poll from the East Region. The Warriors were the lone Northeast-10 Conference program in the top-25, with Le Moyne College also receiving votes.
After Monday’s exhibition at UConn, the Warriors now turn their focus to the start of the regular season, which begins one week from Saturday in Philadelphia, Pa. against Jefferson University at 2 p.m.
