Merrimack Men’s Tennis Selected to Ninth Straight NCAA Tournament

The Merrimack College men’s tennis team earned its ninth straight berth to the NCAA Tournament on Tuesday evening, receiving an at-large bid as the seventh seed out of the East Region.

Merrimack will travel to and play second-seeded NYIT to begin the tourney. The Bears got the better of the Warriors, 8-1, in the regular-season meeting between the two programs. The other contest in the pod pits No. 3 Chesnut Hill against No. 6 Adelphi, with the winners facing eachother in the second round.

Merrimack finished the season with a 10-9 overall record, its 10th consecutive season with at least 10 wins, including a 9-1 mark in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Navy and Gold are one of three NE-10 teams to make it to the tournament in the East Region, including fifth-seeded Southern New Hampshire and sixth-seeded Adelphi.

In addition to NYIT, the Warriors have played three of the other six teams to advance out of the region, taking on Queens (N.Y.) in non-conference play in addition to league games against the Penmen and the Panthers.

The other pod will be hosted by fourth-seeded Queens, who take on No. 5 Southern New Hampshire in the opening round. The winner will play top-seeded Concordia (N.Y.) in the second round.
