Senior captain Vince Bellino (Amesbury, Mass.) of the Merrimack College men’s tennis team has been named to the Capital One Academic All-American Men’s At-Large First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA).

Bellino, a finance major and owner of a 3.97 GPA, becomes the 17th student-athlete at Merrimack to be named an Academic All-American. He is the first All-American of the academic variety since Joe Mantoni of the baseball program took home third team honors in 2013. Earlier this spring, the Amesbury native landed on the Capital One Academic All-District squad, putting him in the running for All-American status.

He put an exclamation point on his career with another successful season for the Warriors. Serving as the program’s lone senior, Bellino led Merrimack to a fifth straight regular-season title and a third Northeast-10 Championship in the last four seasons. Merrimack defeated Adelphi in the NCAA Tournament to advance to the second round for the fourth straight season.

After finishing the year with a perfect 9-0 record in NE-10 singles and a 8-2 mark in conference doubles, Bellino landed on the all-conference first team at No. 4 singles and all-league second team at No. 2 doubles.

The all-conference first team member was the lone NE-10 selection among the three men’s at-large teams. On the women’s side, Adelphi’s Alexa Froccaro and Saint Michael’s Jackie Chrisholm received first team and third team honors, respectively.
