’97 Chase Olsen commits to Merrimack

Merrimack received a commitment from ’97-born forward Chase Olsen on Sunday. The 20-year-old, who will turn 21 in July, will join the Warriors next season as he ages out of junior hockey.

Olsen has appeared in 44 games this season between the Olds Grizzlys and Spruce Grove Saints, both in the Alberta Junior Hockey League. In those 44 games, Olsen has totaled 24 goals and 28 assists for 52 points. Last season, Olsen had 47 points (22 goals, 25 assists) for Olds and in 2015-16, Olsen had a breakout season in the league, scoring 81 points (32 goals, 49 assists) in 58 games.

In total, over the last three seasons, Olsen has 182 points (79 goals, 103 assists) in 167 AJHL games.

Olsen, who is from Olds, was captain of the Grizzlys before a trade-deadline deal sent him to the Saints to bolster their roster for a playoff push.
