’97-born defenseman Johnny Kovacevic (right shot) committed to Merrimack College on Monday.
Kovacevic is in his first season with the Ottawa Jr. Senators of the CCHL, where in 32 games he has 10 points (4 goals, 6 assists). Kovacevic is eligible for the NHL Draft this coming June along with fellow Merrimack recruit Ethan Spaxman, who Kovacevic was teammates with last season at The Hill Academy.
Along with Spaxman (6-foot-3), Kovacevic will bring good size to Merrimack’s blue line, measuring 6-foot-4 and weighing 217 pounds.
In 66 games with The Hill Academy last season, Kovacevic registered 28 points (5 goals, 23 assists).
Kovacevic was selected in the 12th round of the 2013 OHL Priority Selection Draft by the Niagara IceDogs.
According to Ottawa Jr. Senators radio voice Andrew Foote on Twitter, Kovacevic is slated for a 2017 arrival.
