— Former Merrimack goaltender Joe Cannata will enter training with the Washington Capitals as the No. 1 goaltender in the organization, with Braden Holtby and Philipp Grubauer both playing in the World Cup of Hockey. [The Washington Post]

— Merrimack recruit Jackson Bales is captaining his hometown Oakville Blades (OJHL) during their 50th anniversary season. He’s one of a 12 players on the team with local ties.

“I think they want to see this out. They all came in as rookies together and they’ve been working towards this (year). They took another step closer last year, going to Game 7 in the second round,” Blades general manager Jordan Selinger told InsideHalton.com. [InsideHalton.com]
