Senior Rhett Bly was named Merrimack College’s unsung hero and junior Justin Mansfield was given the annual Strength and Conditioning Award at Merrimack’s annual banquet on Wednesday night.
One of the steadiest skaters over the last four years who ends his career in the program’s top-five leaders in all-time games played, Bly was a repeat winner of the Unsung Hero Award, which he also won last spring. The honor is bestowed to the player who exemplifies perseverance, enthusiasm, dedication and hard work throughout the season and takes into account the work ethic and determination that he has shown in all facets of the game.
One of only six players to appear in all 33 games, Mansfield also enjoyed a similarly strong year and was the recipient of the Strength and Conditioning Award, which is given annually to the player who has elevated his game to play at an elite level throughout his work and dedication to the strength and conditioning program on and off the ice. A versatile skater who saw shifts on the team’s fourth line over the course of the year, Mansfield led the team in plus-minus and ranked second in blocked shots with 42 on the year.
