Evan Bell leaves Merrimack for return to USHL

Freshman defenseman Evan Bell informed the Merrimack coaching staff over the semester break that he would not be returning to the team. Bell was removed from the Merrimack roster prior to Friday night’s game at Denver. Bell, who appeared in five games in the first half of the season, will return to the Fargo Force (USHL) and could be in the lineup as early as Friday night.

“We are disappointed and wish Evan well with his future endeavors, and we are moving on with those who want to be a part of our program and help us accomplish our goals,” said Merrimack head coach Mark Dennehy.

By returning to the USHL, Bell leaves open the possibility of transferring to another Division I program. He’s the latest in a string of departures around Hockey East this semester break, including Michael Campoli (BC), Jake Ryczek (Providence) and Shane Bear (UMass). Garrett Cockerill was removed from the Northeastern roster just prior to the semester break. Ironically, all five players are defensemen.
