Merrimack incoming freshman defenseman Simon Loof underwent surgery in July for an injury sustained at development camp with the Philadelphia Flyers. There was no timetable set for Loof’s return; the surgery was handled by Flyers doctors after the injury occurred at the team’s camp.

Loof appeared in 46 games last season for the Lone Star Brahmas, scoring two goals and adding 24 assists for 26 points. A native of Eksjö, Sweden, Loof spent most of his youth career with the Nässjö HC organization. Two seasons ago, Loof moved to Karlskrona HK before coming to North America for the first time last season.

In 2014-15, Lööf had the most points among defensemen in the J20 Elit league, scoring 28 points (10 goals, 18 assists) in 27 games for Nässjö HC.

There isn’t a reported timetable for Loof’s return, but it doesn’t appear that the injury will be season-ending.
