HOCKEY EAST: Several Hockey East Games on ASN’s Schedule

Hockey East has several games listed on America Sports Network’s upcoming schedule (Ed. Note — the dates were later removed). According to several broadcast sources, these games will continue to air locally on NESN, but will be produced through America Sports Network, which also has an agreement with the NCHC, and will run multiple doubleheaders this upcoming season.

Because of the doubleheader format, some games will begin at 6 p.m. while others begin at 8:30 p.m. ASN could also distribute these games nationally on other affiliates, as well as the potential for streaming the games online.

The full details of the agreement will likely be announced on Monday, when the league hosts its annual Media Day at TD Garden.

According to one broadcast source, who has worked with both NESN and Hockey East, it’s a win-win for both the league and it’s members, as well as NESN. The league will actually have the opportunity for more exposure on the ASN Network while still broadcasting its games locally on NESN. Meanwhile NESN no longer has to front the production cost. NESN also had exclusivity in its contract which is now no longer in place, meaning other member schools could broadcast their own games on any channel they prefer, as well as any games, without restrictions.

Several teams, including Merrimack, have partnered with WBIN, Fox College Sports, ESPN3 and other networks to broadcast games the last several seasons.

The full schedule, according to ASN’s website earlier on Wednesday, is:

10/23 – Minnesota Duluth at Notre Dame (6pm)
11/12 — Northeastern at Notre Dame (6pm)
11/13 – Boston University at Providence (6pm)
