Former Merrimack College defenseman Kyle Bigos has signed with the Quad City Mallards (ECHL) for the 2017-18 season.
Bigos, 28, will make his return to the ice after appearing in two games for the Idaho Steelheads last season. According Brian McCormack, the Director of Media for the Steelheads, after the start of last season Bigos was pursuing opportunities outside of hockey.
Prior to his stint with the Steelheads, Bigos appeared in 44 games for the Edinburgh Capitals (EIHL) in 2015-16, scoring five goals and adding 15 assists to go with 157 penalty minutes.
Over the course of his Merrimack career, the 6-foot-4 defenseman competed in 133 games, scoring 14 goals and adding 33 assists for 47 points. Bigos, who was an assistant captain his senior year, has the second-most penalty minutes in Hockey East history (457), behind only former Maine forward Joey Diamond (467), whose college career coincided with Bigos’ at Merrimack.
Bigos was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft (fourth round, 94th overall).
