Report: Da Costa Wants to Return to the NHL, Teams Interested

Stephane Da Costa

TSN reporter Darren Dreger reported on Monday that former Merrimack forward Stephane Da Costa wants to return to the NHL, and that several teams have expressed interest. However, Dreger also reports that Da Costa has considerable interest from the KHL as well, and an NHL offer “will have to come soon.”

Currently, Da Costa is tied with Johnny Gaudreau for the lead in goals scored (6) at the 2017 IIHF World Championships.

Da Costa remains a restricted free agent in the NHL, with his rights held by the Ottawa Senators. However, the Senators exclusive rights expire on July 1, when Da Costa becomes an unrestricted free agent.

It’s interesting that Dreger said “an offer would have to come soon,” considering that his rights are exclusively held by the Senators for more than another month.

Da Costa has 96 points over 90 games the last three seasons with CSKA Moscow in the KHL. He appeared in 43 NHL games for the Ottawa Senators before signing in the KHL.
