Ethan DeStefani was selected in the ninth round of the USHL Phase II Draft by the Youngstown Phantoms on Tuesday. DeStefani, a ’99-born player from Bedford, N.H., is a Merrimack men’s hockey recruit who played last season with the Minnesota Magicians of the NAHL.
DeStefani played previously in the USHL for the Waterloo Blackhawks, but suffered a knee injury just five games into the 2016-17 season, missing the rest of the year. He made his comeback this season with the Magicians, posting 31 points (14 goals, 17 assists) in 53 games.
DeStefani will join a Youngstown roster that has sent numerous players to the Merrimack program, including Chase Gresock, Liam Dennison, Dominic Dockery, Patrick Kramer and Alfred Larsson. Merrimack associate head coach Curtis Carr was formerly the head coach and GM of the Phantoms.
