Merrimack Softball picked to win Northeast Division in NE10 Coaches’ Poll

The Merrimack College softball team was selected to finish first in the Northeast Division as the Northeast-10 Conference announced its 2018 Preseason Coaches’ Poll on Friday morning. It is the first time in since the conference split into two divisions in 2013 that the Warriors were picked number one.

The Warriors finished last year with 35-15 overall record, the most wins in a single season since 2004, and 19-5 in conference play. The Navy and Gold posted 18 wins within the division, and returned to the NE10 Championship Finals and made their 14th NCAA appearance.

Merrimack earned 103 points overall, including 12 of the 15 first-place votes.

Southern New Hampshire, which lost to Merrimack in the NE10 Championship Quarterfinal’s last season, was picked second in the Northeast Division with 92 points and three first-place votes. Saint Anselm and Assumption round out the top four. Stonehill was picked fifth, with Bentley, Saint Michael’s and Franklin Pierce would round out the eight-team division.

In the Southwest Division, 2017 NE10 Champions Adelphi nabbed the top spot with 88 points, earning 10 first-place votes. New Haven ranked second in the Division, garnering 71 points and three first-place votes.

Le Moyne is slotted third in the seven-team division, just four points behind the Chargers, with Pace rounding out the top four teams with 62 points. American International (35), Saint Rose (28), and Southern Connecticut State (20) round out the division.

The Warriors begin their season on Friday, February 16 for a three-day trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in the Snowbird Freeze Out Tournament.
