Merrimack softball ranked No. 22 in NFCA Division II Poll

The Merrimack College softball team returned to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll for the first time since 2012. After a 5-1 weekend from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, the Warriors are ranked 22nd in the first week of the poll, as announced on Wednesday.

The Navy and Gold picked up five straight wins to begin the year against some strong competition during the Snowbird Freeze Out Tournament in Myrtle Beach. Merrimack topped Wilmington, 3-2, in extra innings to begin the year, while knocking of Felician and Lock Haven by scores of 5-2 and 9-2.

The Warriors enjoyed a 13-5 win against Clarion during their fourth game of the trip, before an 8-3 victory over East Stroudsburg on the last day.

Defending national champion Minnesota State is at the top of the poll. Merrimack is the lone school from the Northeast-10 Conference currently in the poll.

Merrimack has the next two and a half weeks off, before returning to the field on Friday, March 9 for six games in three days in Clermont, Florida.
