NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College softball team will be making its second straight trip to the 2018 NCAA Division II Softball Championship and 15th in program history, which was announced Monday morning on the NCAA Selection Show. The Warriors enter the tournament with a 31-14 record and are the seventh seed in the eight-team region.
Merrimack ended the regular season as the third seed in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship, defeating Assumption in the first round last Tuesday, before falling to Pace University in the NE10 Quarterfinals on Thursday.
The Warriors will be in the East 2 Region pod in Manchester, New Hampshire, hosted by Saint Anselm College. They will take on the second-seeded and host Hawks on Thursday, May 10, at noon in a double-elimination format. It will be the fourth meeting between the two schools this season. The Hawks took the season series 2-1 on the final weekend of March.
Rounding out the East 2 Region pod will be third-seeded Southern New Hampshire against the sixth seeded Setters of Pace University at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. Merrimack is guaranteed to play at least one game on Friday, May 11. If the Warriors win twice, they will play at least one game on Saturday, May 12.
In the other East Region pod, Adelphi was selected as the top-seed in the East bracket. They will take on the CACC Champions Caldwell University, which comes in as the eighth-seed. ECC Champion LIU Post, which is the fourth-seed, will take on the fifth-seeded Le Moyne College Dolphins at 2:30 p.m.
The Warriors will travel to Manchester, New Hampshire Thursday for a 12 p.m. first pitch on the South Athletic Fields on the campus of Saint Anselm College.
