Merrimack’s Michaela Pernell qualifies for NCAA Indoor Championships

The Merrimack College women’s track & field team will be represented by junior Michaela Pernell in the Division II NCAA Indoor Championships in Pittsburg, Kansas on March 9-10 on the campus of Pittsburg State University. Pernell qualified for the 60m and 200m dashes.

Pernell returns to her second straight NCAA Championships, as she competed in the 60m dash and 4×400 relay last year. She currently sits sixth on the 60m qualifying list and 10th in the 200m event.

This year, she will be competing in the 60m dash and the 200m dash, where she won Northeast-10 Conference titles back on February 18. She was also named Most Outstanding Track Athlete at the meet. Pernell has won eight individual events this year, along as being a part of a 4×200 relay team that won at the Bowdoin College Invitational on January 20. She was named NE10 Track Athlete of the Week four times this winter as well. Pernell was also named to the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-East Region team Monday.

The Naugatuck, Connecticut native will be competing on Friday, March 9 with the 60m dash preliminary race starting at 3:15 p.m., and the 200m preliminary event starting at 5:15 p.m.
