— OK … Kevin Wall.

Merrimack hasn’t been immune to this type of stuff in the past. Wade Murphy, Austin Plevy, and there have been more. But, this one probably stings just a little bit because Wall had reaffirmed his commitment to the Warriors over the summer after the coaching staff re-recruiting him following the coaching change.

According to sources, feelers were sent Wall’s way by both North Dakota and Denver, which are two schools who heavily recruit in the BCHL. North Dakota was the team that snagged Murphy. At the time Murphy de-committed, a source told me, “you watch, in a week he’ll commit to North Dakota.” And voila, Murphy was tweeting about his commitment to the Fighting Sioux only six days later.

Things didn’t work out well for Murphy, though. He was barely in the lineup at North Dakota and then got cut, winding up at Arizona State for his final two seasons.

Wall has been scoring at an impressive clip, especially for an 18-year-old in that league. Losing him no doubt hurts Merrimack, but this coaching staff is tireless when it comes to recruiting.

— The Merrimack women’s hockey team received word that Czech forward Dominika Laskova has been ruled eligible by the NCAA. Laskova is listed as a sophomore on Merrimack’s roster but hasn’t appeared in a game yet, due to the NCAA attempting to rule on her eligibility. Oftentimes, there are problems for international players (i.e. Merrimack had the same issue with Stephane Da Costa).

Laskova is a highly-regarded player, but bigger programs backed off in recruiting due to concerns about her eligibility. Merrimack took a chance on the process, and now it’s working out.

    Mike –

Any idea why there was no coverage in the Globe of the BU game?

A lot of newspapers are slashing staff, and therefore condensing coverage. I’m not sure about the Globe’s situation specifically, but I’m guessing that’s a big part of it.
