VIP Insider 134: Forsmark commits, Seney makes NHL debut

Exclusively for our VIP supporters, TMR editor Mike McMahon brings you these “insider” posts, where he’ll discuss the news and give some insight and perspective on the stories we’re covering here at The Mack Report as well other insider info from stories around the country …

— Filip Forsmark committed to Merrimack last week, and all indications are that he’s a very good pickup for the Warriors. I spoke with Tri-City (USHL) head of hockey operations, Steve Lowe, last Thursday who said that Forsmark is one of their most-skilled players who is also one of their hardest workers. He described him as a diligent player who is good in almost every situation and is very detailed. Lowe thinks that Forsmark could be a top-six player in Hockey East from his freshman year to his senior year. Lowe also said that Forsmark had multiple offers, so it sounds like he chose the Warriors over several other Division I suitors.

— Brett Seney played about 11 minutes in his NHL debut on Saturday night with the New Jersey Devils. That’s a little less than what he was averaging in the preseason, but also about double the minutes of a fellow Binghamton call-up. The Devils play again tonight on the road in Pittsburgh against the Penguins. Seney is going to find himself in an limbo spot, meaning the Devils will have to determine if he’s better off, from a development perspective, playing 11-13 minutes per night in New Jersey, or if he’s better off playing 19-22 minutes per night as a top-six forward in Binghamton.
