VIP Insider Blog (12/10)

Exclusively for our VIP supporters, TMR editor Mike McMahon brings you these “insider” blog posts, where he’ll discuss the news and give some insight and perspective on the stories we’re covering here at The Mack Report as well other insider info from stories around the country …

— Jake Wise was added by the Chicago Steel last week. Wise, who was once considered a top prospect for the 2018 NHL Draft, only has two assists in 12 games this season for BU and has had similar struggles to BC phenom Oliver Wahlstrom. The Steel added Wise in speculation, much like Tri-City added Wahlstrom in speculation, and there’s no guarantee he’ll leave school. If I were handicapping it, I’d speculate that there is a better chance Wahlstrom leaves than Wise, but it’s purely a guess.

— Speaking of USHL additions … the Youngstown Phantoms will likely add Merrimack freshman Ethan DeStefani to their roster today. Like with Wahlstrom and Wise, that doesn’t necessarily mean DeStefani will leave school, but there’s a possibility. Youngstown owns DeStefani’s rights after drafting him last summer in the ninth round.

— Alex Jefferies and Casey Severo are off to great starts in prep hockey. They’re on pace to be in the group of top scorers around the prep ranks, which should open up opportunities for them in the USHL next year or the year after, depending on their age and schedule.

— The word on new recruit Ryan Nolan is that he’s a well-rounded player who also has very good leadership qualities.
