Alyssa Casey named NE10 Rookie of the Week for a sixth time this season

Freshman forward Alyssa Casey (Andover, Mass.) of the Merrimack College women’s basketball program earned her sixth Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week award when the league announced its weekly winners on Monday afternoon.

Casey took home her first honor since the first week of January and sixth overall, which ties Le Moyne’s McKayla Roberts – the reigning NE10 Rookie of the Year – for the most honors in the last seven years. The rookie posted 11 points, eight rebounds and four steals in the Warriors’ victory last week at New Haven.

The Andover native is second on the team and seventh in the NE10 with an average of 14.9 points per game, while her 6.2 field goals per contest is the fourth-highest average in the conference. The first-year post player has scored in double figures in 14 of 18 games this season, including three 20-point performances.

She leads Merrimack with 113 rebounds, posting the second-best rebounding average on the squad (6.6). Her four double-doubles are tied for the most on the Warriors, while Casey’s 29 steals and 1.7 steals per game are both second on the team.

Casey and the Warriors return to action tomorrow night when Merrimack hosts Saint Rose at 1 p.m. from Hammel Court.
