Merrimack adds three players during NLI signing period

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women’s basketball program and head coach Monique LeBlanc announced on Wednesday morning that the Warriors have added three future student-athletes to the team, which will begin play for the Navy and Gold this fall.

“This is another very exciting incoming class that we are eager to add to our Warrior Family. First and foremost, all three are high character people who have a strong work ethic and will be a great addition to our team culture,” LeBlanc stated. “On the court, they collectively bring qualities to match our needs in their positions: size, depth, and a broad skill set. Kate, Julia, and Caroline will be an immediate impact to our team and the Merrimack community!”

Two of the Warriors’ three incoming freshman arrive from New York, while the other one is a Massachusetts product from Sandwich High School. The trio will make up Merrimack’s Class of 2022.

LeBlanc on Mager: “Kate is a tall guard who is a pure shooter. In addition to her scoring ability, she is a high IQ player with a feel for the game and makes great decisions with the ball. ”

About Mager: Member of the basketball program at Albertus Magnus High School … Reached the 1,000-point milestone during her senior season … Named Rockland County Player of the Week as a junior … Was the League MVP as well as an All-State, All-County and All-League selection that season … Received the Isabelle Costa Academic and Athletic Excellence Award … Also named an all-league honoree as a sophomore … Won the Class A Section 1 Championship and reached the New York State Final Four as a freshman

JULIA MERTSOCK

LeBlanc on Mertsock: “Julia is a tenacious rebounder. She has a great motor- always playing with high energy and a competitiveness that propels her to make plays on both sides of the floor.”

About Mertsock: Three-sport athlete at Letchworth, playing volleyball, basketball and softball … Recorded school records of over 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds following her junior season … Two-time selection to the All-New York State Team, a Section Five All-Star and to the Section Five All-Tournament Team … Three-time LCAA All-Star in basketball … Named the Letchworth Central School Athlete of the Year following her sophomore year, the first sophomore in school history to win the award

Hometown: Forestdale, Mass.17725

LeBlanc on Wilson: “Caroline is a versatile forward whose skill set allows her play on the perimeter or inside. She can make shots or post-up, and brings toughness to the floor in either position.”

About Wilson: Four-year varsity letterwinner on the women’s basketball team at Sandwich High School … Reached the 1,000-point milestone midway through her senior season … Two-time All-Star Game MVP … Led the ACL in scoring following her junior season … Two-year captain, named team captain entering her senior season … Voted Team MVP following her junior campaign and Most Improved Player after her sophomore season
