Merrimack Women’s Golf Opens With Win Over SNHU

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Merrimack College women’s golf team started the season off on a high note, defeating Southern New Hampshire by 34 strokes in a two-team dual match on Saturday afternoon at Lake Sunapee Country Club.

How It Happened

  • Junior captain Alessandra Ricigliano (Sardsale, N.Y.), the individual champion at last year’s Northeast-10 Conference Championship, led all players on Saturday by carding a 76, five strokes off her personal-best mark
  • Sophomore Krystal Knight (Groveland, Mass.), who became the second individual in program history to qualify for the NCAA Super Regionals last May, picked up right where she left off after a stellar rookie campaign, ranking second by carding a 77, four strokes off her career-best
  • Junior Jessica Wagner (San Diego, Calif.) and sophomore Olivia Dempster (Auckland, New Zealand)each tied for third with 82s, while junior Samantha Monaco (Brewster, N.Y.) rounded out the Merrimack top-five with an 85
  • Senior captain Sam Gervais (Chelmsford, Mass.) and junior Kristen Gamble (Manlius, N.Y.) also saw action on Saturday, carding an 87 and 102, respectively
  • Merrimack the dual match by 34 strokes, carding a 317 as a team (top-four scores) compared to SNHU’s 351
