NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – With the 2017-18 regular season just over a week away, Merrimack College women’s ice hockey head coach, Erin Hamlen, has named juniors Jessica Bonfe (Woodbury, Minn.) and Paige Voight (St. Michael, Minn.) as team co-captains this season.
Voight appeared in all 36 games last season and was second on the team in scoring (26 points, 15 goals, 11 assists). Her 20 points in Hockey East play was tied for 17th place in the conference. She also had a five-game point streak from January 14th through February third.
Bonfe, who was a captain last season, also played in all 36 contests. She finished with 17 points and was one of three Merrimack players with 10 or more goals. Her 109 shots were second on the team and she had a four-game point streak from October 21st through October 29th. Bonfe was also named to the Hockey East All-Academic Team last season.
Coach Hamlen is excited for the two juniors to see how their leadership will contribute to the success of this year’s squad.
“Jess Bonfe and Paige Voight each have stepped up over the past two years to contribute to the leadership in our locker room,” explained Hamlen. “They have a balance of determination, belief, decisiveness and care which will help our team be successful on the ice. Our staff is excited to see what the team can accomplish under their guidance.”
The Warriors open play Friday, Sept. 22 with an exhibition contest against the Whitby Wolves at Lawler Rink. Puck Drop is set for 7 p.m. Merrimack opens the 2017-18 regular season at Boston University the next day for a 3 p.m. contest.
