Merrimack’s Demers Named Women’s Hockey East Player of the Week

Sophomore goaltender Léa-Kristine Demers (Repentigny, Quebec) of the Merrimack College women’s ice hockey team has been named the Women’s Hockey East Player of the Week, as announced by the league Monday

The sophomore goalie helped guide the Warriors to a huge 4-3 upset victory over No. 3 Minnesota on Friday night. Demers had a career-high 54 saves on 57 shots, including 22 saves in the second period, to get her first win of the 2017-18 season.

Demers and the rest of the Warriors are back in action this weekend for a home-and-home series against New Hampshire on Friday and Saturday. Friday’s puck drop is set for 7 p.m. from Durham, New Hampshire, with Saturday’s coming from Lawler Rink at 3 p.m.
