Ridgewell named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week


Junior goaltender Samantha Ridgewell(Outlook, Saskatchewan) of the Merrimack College women’s ice hockey team earned her second Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week accolade, as announced by the league Monday.

The junior goalie helped the Warriors go 2-0 over the weekend, picking up a pair of non-conference wins against Princeton. On Friday, Ridgewell made 31 saves, including 14 in the third period, to pick up a 1-0 shutout. She made 23 saves in the second game of the weekend series, during a 4-1 win on Saturday.

On the year, Ridgewell has appeared in 11 games with 10 starts, posting a 1.77 goals-against-average, with a 3-6-1 record. She has made 287 saves this season in over 600 minutes of action. It is the second time she has received the award, the last time coming during the week of October 16th.

Ridgewell and the rest of the Warriors enjoy a week off, before returning to action on Friday, December 8th against #2/#3 Boston College for a home-and-home series. The first game will be played in Chestnut Hill at 7 p.m., before the series shifts to North Andover on Saturday, December 9th for a 4 p.m. puck drop.
