Merrimack Adds Boerger, Lankton to Women’s Lacrosse Coaching Staff
Merrimack College head women’s lacrosse coach Julie Duffy is pleased to announce the hiring of Emily Boerger and Sarah Lankton to round out the team’s coaching staff for the 2016-17 academic year, as announced Monday.
“I’m excited to welcome Emily Boerger and Sarah Lankton to the Merrimack Women’s Lacrosse program,” Duffy stated. “They bring a ton of experience and energy to the field and will be great mentors to future Warriors. I know they will do a great job in helping lead Merrimack to a bright future.”
Both Boerger and Lankton arrive in North Andover after stints at Findlay; Boerger spent the 2016 campaign with the Oilers as an assistant coach alongside Duffy, while Lankton just wrapped up a highly successful four-year career as a part of Findlay’s women’s lacrosse team and was a member of the program’s first-ever four-year senior class.
Boerger helped the Oilers post a school-record 12 wins during her only season with the program. While on the coaching staff, she helped Findlay reach the GLIAC Championship for the first time in program history, and also instructed an All-American and all-region selection, as well as the GLIAC Midfielder of the Year and four All-GLIAC selections. She also assisted in planning and directing practices, as well as the team’s strength and conditioning program, while also recording and analyzing game film and statistics.
Prior to Findlay, Boerger served as a volunteer assistant coach with Ohio State from 2013-15. While with the Buckeyes, she assisted in planning and directing practices, coordinating skill development and analyzing all film statistics among other things. She has also coached club with North Star Lacrosse since 2013.
Boerger graduated from Urbana University in 2013 with a degree in exercise science. She was a second team all-conference pick for the Blue Knights in 2013 and holds four Urbana school records.
Lankton leaves Findlay as arguably the program’s most decorated student-athlete. A starter in all 75 of Findlay’s games while she was on campus, the Carmel, Indiana, native was a two-time All-American and three-time GLIAC Midfielder of the Year. Earning a spot on the All-GLIAC Team all four seasons, she finished with 341 points on 262 goals and 79 assists over that four-year span while also totaling 299 career ground balls, 427 draw controls and 120 caused turnovers.
Lankton also served as an intern with Findlay’s Athletic Department while she was a student and has taught private coaching lessons since 2013. She also has served as a coach for Midwestern Force Lacrosse since August of 2012, as well.
Also a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Lankton graduated from Findlay in May of 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Sport and Event Management.
