Merrimack Women’s Soccer Selected No. 11 in NE10 Coaches Poll

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Northeast-10 Conference unveiled its 2017 Preseason Women’s Soccer Coaches’ Poll on Monday morning, which featured the Merrimack College women’s soccer team being picked to finish in 11th place.

Merrimack garnered 72 voting points in the 15-team compilation and were affixed in front of four other teams. The Warriors finished in 10th place last fall in a fierce battle for the final few playoff spots down the stretch; Merrimack posted a 5-6-3 record in conference play, but four of those losses were by one goal.

Defending regular season champion Adelphi, which garnered 188 points and 10 first-place votes, led the pack, followed by AIC in second place with 165 points, including two first-place nods. Saint Rose checked in third with 160 points and one first-place selection.

Slots four through seven were separated by a grand total of four points. Defending NE10 champion Stonehill received 144 points and one first-place vote. The Skyhawks were followed by Southern Connecticut with 143, Southern New Hampshire (142), and Pace (141).

Interestingly, five of the league’s 15 members received at least one first place vote.

Le Moyne (102 points), Franklin Pierce (88) and Assumption (75) were the only other teams ahead of Merrimack in spots 8-10, while the Warriors found themselves ahead of Bentley, Saint Anselm, New Haven and Saint Michael’s.

Merrimack begins the season with two tilts on Long Island on Labor Day Weekend starting with a Friday, Sept. 1 season-opening bout against Dominican College as part of the Molloy Labor Day Weekend Tournament. The Warriors then play the host Lions on Sunday (Sept. 3).
