Merrimack Swimming

After working together to earn a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay this past Saturday in a double-dual meet in Standish, Maine, sophomores Kendra Van Pelt (Burlington, Iowa) and Ireland Wilson (Niantic, Conn.), and freshmen Maeve McGowan (Mansfield, Mass.) and Samantha Towle(Chalfont, Pa.) of the Merrimack College women’s swimming team earned Northeast-10 Conference Relay Team of the Week recognition, as announced by the league on Monday.

The weekly league award is the first in the three-year history of the program, and comes as the Warriors continue an impressive start to the season under first-year head coach Erin Cammann.

The four swimmers tallied a combined time of 1:52.88 in the 200-yard freestyle relay, which cleared second place by 5.21 seconds. This marks the second time this season that Van Pelt, Wilson, McGowan and Towle have teamed up to place first in a relay event, as the group finished first overall in the 200-yard medley relay (2:05.80) at Saint Michael’s on Nov. 13.

McGowan and Towle were also named to the NE-10 Honor Roll for their efforts this week, as they combined for five first-place finishes in individual events. McGowan placed first overall in the 50-yard backstroke (30.75), the 50-yard freestyle (27.39) and the 50-yard butterfly (30.42), while Towle finished first overall in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:36.08) and the 100-yard freestyle (58.09).
