Merrimack Women’s Tennis Slotted Fifth in NE10 Poll

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women’s tennis program was selected to finish in fifth place in 2017 as the Northeast-10 Conference released its Preseason Coaches’ Poll on Thursday.

Stonehill was picked to win the league, receiving seven of a possible 13 first-place votes and 138 points overall. Adelphi (123) edged out Southern New Hampshire (121) for second place, with each program receiving three first-place tallies. Assumption concluded the top-four in the poll with 109 points.

Merrimack (95) narrowly bested Bentley (93) for fifth place, with the Warriors and Falcons predicted to grab the final two NE10 Championship berths. Le Moyne (86) ranked in seventh followed by Saint Anselm (65) and New Haven (52), respectively. Saint Michael’s (50), Franklin Pierce (42), American International (22) and Saint Rose (18) were featured in the final four spots in the poll.

Seniors Danielle Dunn (Middleton, Mass.)Mackenzie Blair (Thomaston, Conn.) and Abbey Bryant (North Brookfield, Mass.) return to lead the program, joining 2016-17 all-conference selections Mia Briggs (York, Maine)Lauren Persson (Barnstable, Mass.), and Mana Seifaei (North York, Ontario).

Head coach Dena Madden returns to lead the Warriors through a 13-match slate in 2017, and a return trip to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association East Regional Championship in September. The Warriors will play six home matches, including three of the first five of the season. The season opener is set for Saturday, Sept. 9, at 1 p.m. against Saint Michael’s College from North Andover High School.
