After great performance at the UMass Boston Indoor Open in her first-career meet as a Warrior, freshman Michaela Pernell (Naugatuck, Conn.) of the Merrimack College women’s track and field team has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Women’s Track Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office.

Pernell notched the lone first-place finish for the Warriors at the meet, winning the 60M with a time of 7.85. That time would go as a personal best, rank third on the school record board, and qualify for the New England (NEICAAA) Championships all in her first collegiate meet.

The freshman also excelled in the 200M, running a time of 26.35 that placed her fourth at the meet. That time was also a personal record and is the second-fastest time in that even on the school record board. She also rand with the Merrimack A 4x400M team that posted a time of 4:04.61, good enough for third overall at the meet.

Pernell and the rest of the Warriors are back in action on Saturday for the Jay Carisella Invitational in Boston, Massachusetts.
