NEW ORLEANS, La. – For the second consecutive week in just two weeks of competition this indoor season, senior captain Carly Muscaro (Ashland, Mass.) of the No. 21 Merrimack College women’s track & field team has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Track Athlete of the Week and the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Athlete of the Week, as announced on Tuesday.
After improving her New England Intercollegiate record in the 400m to 52.27 at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational last weekend, which ranks as the second-best time in the history of Division II, the senior standout would again reach unprecendented speeds in Boston this past weekend. At the Scarlet and White Invitational in Boston, Muscaro became the new American Division II Collegiate record holder in the 500m dash, setting a new standard at 1:09.05, which is also second-best in the history of the NCAA.
This award marks the sixth time Muscaro has garnered National Athlete of the Week honors from the USTFCCCA and the second time this season, also earning the award three times during the 2015-16 seasons and once as a sophomore.
Muscaro and the Warriors are in Boston next weekend for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday and Saturday.--
