Merrimack College Director of Athletics Jeremy Gibson announced that Nick Barese has been named interim head coach of the baseball program. Barese will be in charge of all baseball-related operations effective immediately.
The four-year assistant worked under former head coach Jim Martin, who left the program to become an assistant coach at Division I University of Rhode Island.
A 2008 graduate of Saint Anselm, Barese has worked predominantly with the Merrimack pitchers in his time in North Andover. Last season the Warriors finished with a 3.25 ERA as a staff, finishing seventh in the Northeast-10. Alek Morency was selected to the NE-10 All-Conference Second Team after posting a 7-3 record with a 1.17 ERA. Sophomore Joe Velozo finished the year on the All-Rookie Team after compiling a 4.60 ERA over 29 innings pitched.
