Junior Joey Porricelli and senior Cam Monagle added to their award-laden spring seasons on Wednesday when the two members of the Merrimack College baseball program were named to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association Baseball All-East Region Teams on Wednesday.

Porricelli landed on the D2CCA All-East Region First Team at third base, and will now be eligible for All-American consideration from the D2CCA. Monagle earned second-team accolades after emerging as Merrimack’s ace this season. For both Warriors, it marked their first-ever all-region selection of any kind.

A Monroe, Conn. native, Porricelli enjoyed a career year that featured Northeast-10 Conference Co-Player of the Year honors after he led Merrimack’s offense from the leadoff spots. The Warriors’ table-setter set career highs in homers (9), triples (5), RBI (41), OPS, (.946), slugging percentage (.551), on-base percentage (.395) and stolen bases (33). Defensively, Porricelli also committed the fewest errors of his career (9), while registering a career-best .950 field percentage at third base that marked a 29-point increase from his sophomore season and near 100-point improvement from his rookie campaign. He tied for the team high with 20 multi-hit games – seven of which were of the three-hit variety – and paced the Warriors with 14 multi-RBI contests. He enjoyed a 29-game on-base streak during the season, and reached base in 34 of his 35 games overall.

In the conference rankings, Porricelli led the league in steals, triples and runs scored (52), ranked in second or a tie for second in homers, total bases (113), extra-base hits and base hits (65). Nationally, the league’s top base stealer ranked in a tie for 10th in total steals and 11th in thefts per game (0.69). The right-handed slugger hit the most homers by a Merrimack player since 2002, posted just the third-ever 30-steal campaign in school history and already sits in fourth in program history in career runs scored (132).

On the mound, Monagle emerged as the staff’s ace after an injury-shortened junior season. The Cambridge, Mass. native dominated opposing hitters in 2019, posting a career-best 7-1 record over 11 appearances and 10 starts. The all-league first-team selection and CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree set career highs in innings pitched (83.0), strikeouts (53) and quality starts (10). Opponents hit just .227 off Monagle, while the right-hander registered a quality start in all 10 of his outings, allowing no fewer than three earned runs in any appearance in 2019.

Across the NE10, Monagle ranked third in ERA (1.63) and sixth nationwide. The 2017 NE10 leader in ERA ranked 14th nationwide in WHIP (0.94), while also ranked sixth in DII in walks allowed per nine innings (0.98). His 2.11 career earned-run average will forever rank as the second lowest in school history, while his seven victories were the second most ever in a single year for a Merrimack pitcher. Monagle’s 83.0 innings thrown marked as the fourth most by a Warriors pitcher ever.
