Vadenais, Gentile Named NE-10 Cross Country Male Athlete, Rookie of the Week

After their combined efforts helped the men’s side place third over the weekend at the Codfish Bowl Invitational, junior Evan Vadenais (Millville, Mass.) and freshman Christian Gentile (Melrose, Mass.) each earned weekly recognition by the Northeast-10 Conference on Tuesday.

Vadenais was named the league’s Male Athlete of the Week, while Gentile was tabbed the Male Rookie of the Week. Both earned their first career weekly honors from the conference in the process.

Vadenais propelled the Warriors to a third-place team finish at the Codfish Bowl with one of the finest races of his career. The junior finished 10th in the men’s 8K race with a final time of 26:56, representing the highest finish by a Merrimack male runner last Saturday.

Not far behind him was Gentile; the freshman was the second-fastest Warrior at Saturday’s race, placing 12th in an even 27:00. The two helped the team place third out of 11 squads, as the men made it three straight weeks finishing third or better in races this season.

The Warriors host their annual Alumni Meet at home next Saturday, Oct. 4, before competing in the New England Championships the following weekend back in Franklin Park.
