For the third consecutive week, Merrimack freshman quarterback Joe Capobianco was named the Northeast-10 Rookie of the Week.
Capobianco also earned the league’s top rookie honor on Sept. 15 and Sept. 22, and was also tabbed the Corvais ECAC Rookie of the Week on both of those occasions, in addition to his earning the New England Football Writers’ Gold Helmet Award back in Week 2.
This past Saturday,he completed a career-high 35 pass attempts on a season-most 56 attempts, good for a completion percentage of 62.5 percent. The rookie finished with 399 yards – 17 shy of his career-high – and averaged 7.1 yards per attempt. He passed for three touchdowns as well.
On the year, Capobianco – in three starts and four appearances – has completed 91-of-151 (60.3%) passes for 1,252 yards (313.0/game) and 11 touchdowns. He ranks first in the conference in both touchdowns and passing yards per game.
The Warriors return home this Saturday (Oct. 4) for a test against unbeaten Saint Anselm at Martone-Mejail Field. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
