Merrimack Recruiting Top Defensive End From New York

The Merrimack football team has made an offer to one of the top defensive linemen in New York, Eric Dukes Jr. 

Dukes Jr. announced the offer on August 5 on his Twitter page. According to a recent interview with, Dukes Jr. said he also has offers from several Ivy League schools.

“I’ve been approached by a lot of schools,” he told, “but the school’s that have given me offers so far are Dartmouth College (Ivy League; Division 1), Long Island University (Division 1), Sacred Heart University (Division 1), Delaware State (Division 1), Merrimack College (Division 1), and Bryant University (Division 1). Three of them are full scholarships and the others are partial scholarships.

“I plan to study Business Accounting in college. I want to pursue a major in the business field because I like the idea of being an entrepreneur.”

Dukes Jr. was named the top defensive player in Staten Island ahead of the upcoming fall season, tallying 30,171 of the 70,000 votes that were cast.

Off the football field, Dukes Jr. has an impressive resume, including a 3.8 GPA. Dukes Jr. prefaced his interview with, “My goal for this interview is to inspire little kids on Staten Island and be a good role model for them. I want to show them anything is possible through hard work, that there is a way out.”
