Offensive guard Anthony Bonavita commits to Merrimack

The Merrimack football program picked up a big commitment from offensive lineman Anthony Bonavita out of Iona Prep High School in New York.

Bonavita, a 6-foot-3, 305-pound guard, was named All-League, All-County, All-State and he was named the AAA Lineman of the Year as a senior this past fall. Bonavita continues an Iona pipleline to Merrimack, where he’ll join rising juniors Rodney Samson (RB) and Brian Thompson (DB).

Bonavita announced his commitment through his Twitter account on Sunday.

“Thank you to all of the great programs and coaches who have recruited me throughout this process,” he wrote. “After deep thought and consideration, I have decided to continue my academic and athletic career at Merrimack College.”

Bonavita was a sought-after Division I FCS prospect, receiving offers from URI, Bryant and LIU Post. He also made official visits to Rutgers, Central Connecticut and Stony Brook. Last spring, he was invited to spring practice with Fordham and Stony Brook.
