The Merrimack football program picked up a commitment from quarterback Gavin McCusker, who plays for Exeter High School in Pennsylvania. According to The Reading Eagle, McCusker accepted a partial scholarship from the Warriors.
“Ever since I walked in the door as a freshman it’s always been my idea to play college football,” McCusker told the paper. “I’m just thankful it’s at the Division I level, and at a school where I’m going to get the best education for myself.”
Last season he led his region in passing with 2,025 yards and 24 touchdowns. According to the story, Merrimack head coach Dan Curran called him to make an offer on Oct. 19 and after some short contemplation, he called Curran back later that night to accept the offer.
“Having a chance to compete there for the next four years is a big thing for me, as well as getting a good education,” McCusker said. “(Coach Curran) felt my personality fit the (type of) player they’re looking for. He wasn’t just talking to me as a football player, but as a person, and that meant a lot to me.”
